Guarding..the Body March 6, 2013

Life can be brutal and it has been for a long time. Bodyguards!: From Gladiators to the Secret Service by Ed Butts covers comprehensively, all the ways people around the world have guarded bodies and tried to protect them from harm. What happens if a child of a wealthy family in South America is concerned their child might be kidnapped and held for ransom? Who will protect their imgreschild? And what about the president, or heads of companies? There are companies operating now that provide protection for such people. Celebrities often need help from overzealous fans, or the paparazzi and this profession of bodyguards is nothing new or recent.

Going back as far as the Romans and Greeks, when lawlessness could be rampant in city streets, often gladiators were hired out to protect wealthy citizens. That is they could be hired out until they were killed in the coliseum! You will find out more about the history of bodyguards than you ever thought in this cool book!

Recommended for grade 7 and up.
