Student Blogger Cameron C. Reviews THE PRESIDENT HAS BEEN SHOT November 24, 2013

BEA2_presidentOn the morning of November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was readying himself for a motorcade that would change the United States. As he was rounding a street corner, little did he know there was a sniper 10 stories above the motorcade that was also readying himself. Just after his limousine turned the corner, there was a loud boom and the President of the United States of America was unconscious!

I like The President Has Been Shot by James L. Swanson because I enjoy reading about the history of the United States and past presidents. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys learning about the past presidents and the history of the United States. If you enjoyed Catching Lincoln’s Killer, then you will love this book.

Great book! Have you had a chance to learn more about all that occurred in 1963? There are some pretty amazing events occurring in national news that year: the March on Washington and Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech; JFK signs law for equal pay for equal work for men and women; JFK says segregation is morally wrong and that it is “time to act”; race riots in Birmingham, AL and 20 African American students enter public schools there; the Supreme Court rules against Bible reading and prayer in public schools; JFK was assassinated; the Beatles recorded their first album, began their first British Tour, and their 1st tune hit the US charts; Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle each sign record $100,000 contracts to play baseball; and Michael Jordan was born; just to name a few. Amazing to consider the incredible things that occurred all within 1 year in US history, and amazing that this all happened in our nation’s history only 50 years ago! We have come so far, and yet have so much farther to go. In your opinion, of these and other events that took place in 1963, which do you believe was most critical to the history of our nation and why?
