The RithmatistIn an alternate United States, a special type of magical soldiers called Rithmatists are the only defense against wild chalklings, violent, two-dimensional creatures who leave mangled corpses in their wake.  Joel, the son of a lowly chalkmaker at Armedius Academy, wants nothing more than to be a Rithmatist, but can only watch in envy as the chosen students learn their magic.  Then, students start disappearing – kidnapped from their rooms at night, leaving trails of blood.  Assigned to help the professor who is investigating the crimes, Joel and his friend Melody find themselves uncovering deeply hidden secrets that may permanently change the world of the Rhithmatists forever.
